Ingredients

For the Sliders
  • 32 pieces frozen potato rounds (such as Ore-Ida Crispy Crowns)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 8 ounces ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon mustard or to taste
  • 16 pieces pickled gherkins, drained
  • 16 pieces toothpicks

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  2. Toss the potato tots with vegetable oil on the baking pan. Spread them into a single layer.
  3. Bake the tots in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, turning once halfway through, until they are browned and crispy.
  4. While the tots bake, place the ground beef on a sheet of wax paper.
  5. Top the beef with another sheet of wax paper and press it into a rectangle that measures about 4×6 inches.
  6. Remove the top sheet and sprinkle the beef with kosher salt and black pepper. Cut it into sixteen 1×1 1/2-inch rectangles.
  7. Break each slice of cheese into quarters and fold each quarter to create 16 double-layered cheese pieces.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the beef rectangles for about 3 minutes until one side is browned.
  2. Flip the burgers, add cheese on top, and cover the skillet. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the cheese melts, about 3 more minutes.
Assembly
  1. To assemble, start with one potato tot. Place a cheeseburger on top, add ketchup, mustard, a pickle, and then top with another tot. Secure the stack with a toothpick.
  2. Repeat this with the rest of the ingredients.

Notes

Tot Sliders are best served warm. For healthy portion control, serve two to three sliders per person alongside a side salad or steamed vegetables. You can store leftover assembled sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
