  • 2 oz tequila blanco or reposado
  • 1 oz Italian liqueur (like Limoncello or a sweet amaro)
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup or cherry syrup Use sugar-free syrup for lower calorie options.
  • 4–6 pieces fresh sweet cherries, pitted Or 1 oz of jarred maraschino cherries with juice.

  • to top Sparkling water or club soda Optional for lighter option.
  • 1 lemon wheel or cherry for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash and pit the cherries. If using jarred cherries, drain juice and save a small amount for flavor.
  2. In a shaker, add cherries and 3/4 oz simple syrup. Muddle the cherries until they break and release juice.
  3. Add tequila, Italian liqueur, and lemon juice. Add ice.
  4. Shake hard for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
  5. Double strain into a glass over fresh ice to remove small bits of cherry skin, or pour without straining for more fiber.
  6. Top with a splash of sparkling water for a lighter option, if desired.
  7. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a cherry.

Notes

Serve this drink in a small glass to control portions. A 6–8 oz pour with ice is a good serving size. Pair the margarita with high protein meals to balance sugars.
