Preparation
- Wash and pit the cherries. If using jarred cherries, drain juice and save a small amount for flavor.
- In a shaker, add cherries and 3/4 oz simple syrup. Muddle the cherries until they break and release juice.
- Add tequila, Italian liqueur, and lemon juice. Add ice.
- Shake hard for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
- Double strain into a glass over fresh ice to remove small bits of cherry skin, or pour without straining for more fiber.
- Top with a splash of sparkling water for a lighter option, if desired.
- Garnish with a lemon wheel and a cherry.
Notes
Serve this drink in a small glass to control portions. A 6–8 oz pour with ice is a good serving size. Pair the margarita with high protein meals to balance sugars.
