Method
Preparation
- Place the ham in the slow cooker, flat side down, with the scored side facing up.
- Score the top of the ham using a sharp knife to make criss-cross marks about 1/8 inch deep.
- Push about 1 teaspoon of the cloves into the top of the ham.
Making the Glaze
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine honey, orange slices, orange juice, brown sugar, ground ginger, ground mustard, and the remaining teaspoon of cloves.
- Cook on medium heat for 5 minutes, until the glaze has reduced in half.
- Drizzle half of the glaze mixture over the ham, saving the other half to drizzle later.
Cooking
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours.
- Add more glaze every hour of cooking, and in the last hour, add more glaze every 25 minutes.
- When the ham has developed a crunchy, dark brown glaze, remove it from the slow cooker and serve immediately.
Serving
- Let the ham rest for 10 minutes after removing it from the slow cooker.
- Slice thinly along the spiral and arrange on a warm platter.
- Spoon any pan juices or leftover glaze over the top before serving.
Notes
Store leftover ham in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze for up to 3 months for best quality.
