Pickled Cabbage Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups shredded cabbage Fresh shredded green cabbage
  • 0.5 medium green pepper, diced Diced medium green pepper for flavor
  • 1 rib celery, diced Diced celery adds crunch
  • 3/4 cup sugar Adjust to taste for sweetness
  • 1/2 cup vinegar White vinegar or apple cider vinegar can be used
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed For added flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Season to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper Freshly ground black pepper preferred

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients: shredded cabbage, diced green pepper, diced celery, sugar, vinegar, celery seed, salt, and pepper.
  2. Toss well to ensure all the ingredients are coated in the vinegar and sugar mixture.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Store pickled cabbage in an airtight container; it will last about a week in the refrigerator. The flavors will improve over time. Do not freeze as texture will become mushy.
