  • to taste Sweetener (optional) Sugar, honey, or date syrup
Liquid
  • 8 to 10 ounces Water
  • splash Milk or cream (optional) To finish

Method

Preparation
  1. Mix your dry spices with the coffee grounds in a small bowl to help the flavors bloom evenly.
  2. Heat the water until just shy of boiling. Optionally, simmer the spices in the water for 30 to 60 seconds before adding coffee.
Brewing
  1. Brew using a French press, pour-over, or stovetop method. Strain after 3 to 4 minutes for a balanced cup.
  2. Sweeten lightly to taste with honey, sugar, or date syrup. Add a splash of milk if desired.
  3. Taste and adjust the spice as needed by adding a tiny pinch more of cinnamon or cardamom.

Notes

For iced versions, brew strong and cool down with coffee ice cubes. Store a small jar of the spice mix for a quick morning routine.
