Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a doughnut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk, maple syrup, eggs, and melted butter until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in crumbled bacon.
Baking
- Spoon the batter into the prepared doughnut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cooling in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Glazing
- To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup until smooth.
- Dip the tops of the cooled doughnuts in the glaze, letting any excess drip off, and place back on the wire rack to set.
Notes
For a healthier version, consider using whole wheat flour and reducing the sugar. Serve with a high-protein side like Greek yogurt for a balanced snack. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
