  • 1 TBSP olive oil Adds richness and helps combine the flavors.
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste Enhances the sauce's tomato flavor.
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar Can be substituted with sugar alternatives.
  • 1/2 cup prune purée Natural sweetener with lower glycemic index.
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar Provides acidity.
  • 3 TBSP Worcestershire sauce Enhances savory flavor.
  • 1 TBSP yellow mustard Adds a tangy note.
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cumin Adds earthiness.
  • 1 tsp salt Adjust based on taste.
  • 3/4 cup water Adjust to achieve desired consistency.
  • 4 TBSP butter Use unsalted for less sodium.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, add all the ingredients (except for the butter). Mix them well to combine.
  2. Start heating the mixture over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  3. Once you see simmering, reduce the heat to low and allow the sauce to thickly simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally.
  4. After the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, stir in the butter until fully melted and combined.
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  6. Serve and enjoy on your favorite grilled dishes!

Notes

This BBQ sauce is versatile. Use it as a marinade, dipping sauce, or on grilled proteins. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
