  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee, medium or dark roast Brewed fresh for best flavor.
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons hot cocoa mix or unsweetened cocoa plus sugar to taste Adjust according to preference for sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice, warmed Any milk variant can be used, including non-dairy.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Optional for added flavor.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • to taste Whipped cream or mini marshmallows Optional toppings.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Brew your coffee. Hot and fresh is best.
  2. In your mug, stir together the cocoa mix and a splash of hot coffee to make a smooth paste. This prevents lumps.
  3. Pour in the rest of the coffee and stir well.
  4. Warm the milk until steamy, then add to the mug.
  5. Sweeten to taste. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt if you like.
  6. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows. Sip and smile.

Notes

For a colder version, freeze leftover coffee into cubes. To make it creamy, whisk the milk before heating. Use a mix of cocoas for depth.
