Ingredients
  

For the drink
  • 6-7 pieces fresh ripe guavas Make sure they are ripe for best flavor.
  • 4 cups water Use cold water for a refreshing drink.
  • 1/3 cup white sugar Adjust to taste or use a sweetener for a low-calorie version.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice Optional, but adds a nice tang.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash the guavas thoroughly, then remove the ends and slice them in halves.
  2. Place the guava into a blender and add the water. Blend until you have a smooth puree.
  3. Using a fine mesh strainer placed over a large container, strain the puree to remove the seeds.
  4. Transfer the juice to a pitcher, add the sugar, and mix until it dissolves.
  5. Squeeze fresh lime juice into the mixture, combine, and taste. Adjust sweetness if necessary.
  6. Refrigerate the Agua de Guayaba until well chilled before serving.

Notes

Serve cold with ice and a garnish of lime or mint. Can be made into variations by adjusting sweetness or adding fruit blends.
