  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed Use packed dark brown sugar for richness.
  • 1/2 cup water Regular water.
  • 1/4 cup molasses Provides deep flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Ground cinnamon for warmth.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger Adds essential ginger flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Use freshly ground for the best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances syrup flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by adding the brown sugar, water, molasses, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to a small saucepan.
  2. Use a whisk to mix the ingredients together until well combined.
  3. Place the saucepan on medium heat. Stir occasionally as the mixture heats up.
  4. Continue to heat until the sugar fully dissolves. This should take just a few minutes.
  5. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
  6. Allow the syrup to cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  7. After cooling, pour the syrup into a clean syrup bottle or jar.
  8. Keep the syrup in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

For serving, add a tablespoon or two of the syrup to your hot coffee. It’s also delicious in iced coffee, hot chocolate, or over pancakes.
