- Start by adding the brown sugar, water, molasses, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to a small saucepan.
- Use a whisk to mix the ingredients together until well combined.
- Place the saucepan on medium heat. Stir occasionally as the mixture heats up.
- Continue to heat until the sugar fully dissolves. This should take just a few minutes.
- Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
- Allow the syrup to cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
- After cooling, pour the syrup into a clean syrup bottle or jar.
- Keep the syrup in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
For serving, add a tablespoon or two of the syrup to your hot coffee. It’s also delicious in iced coffee, hot chocolate, or over pancakes.
