  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar Reduce to 1/2 teaspoon for a lighter version.
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract Add last to preserve brightness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Add milk, dark chocolate, and brown sugar to a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medium-low heat, whisking until chocolate is melted and the mixture is steaming.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract.
  4. Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes if desired.
  5. Do not boil the milk; keep heat on medium-low to prevent scorching.

Notes

For meal prep, keep a chocolate concentrate ready by melting twice the chocolate with half the milk. Store for up to 2 days. Pair with healthy snacks for a balanced option.
