Preparation
- Prepare two bread pans by spraying with non-stick cooking spray and dusting with cornmeal.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.
- In another bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar; let sit for a couple of minutes until foamy. Then add warm milk and melted butter.
- Gradually stir in the dry flour mixture until combined to form a thick and sticky dough.
- Divide the dough between the two prepared pans, smoothing it out with a spatula.
- Sprinkle cornmeal on top of each loaf and spray lightly with cooking spray.
- Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and bake for 22-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, take bread out from pans, and let cool on a rack before slicing.
Notes
For a healthier version, substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour and reduce butter to 2 tablespoons. Perfect for meal prep and freezing!
