  • 680 grams ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 400 grams cooked white rice Use leftover rice for convenience.
  • 305 grams condensed cream of mushroom soup Can be substituted with cream of chicken or cream of celery soup.
  • 120 millilitres whole milk Can use low-fat milk for a lighter version.
  • 150 grams shredded cheddar cheese Divided into two parts: 100g for mixing and 50g for topping.
  • 5 millilitres Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.25 millilitres garlic powder
  • 1.25 millilitres onion powder
  • to taste salt and black pepper Adjust according to personal preference.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until fully browned, around 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. Once cooked, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned beef, cooked rice, cream of mushroom soup, milk, 100 grams of cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well-mixed.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly into a 23 x 33 centimeter baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 50 grams of cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until the cheese is melted and the casserole is hot and bubbling.
  8. Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Pairs well with a fresh salad or steamed vegetables. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and frozen for up to 3 months.
