Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Grate the frozen butter using a box grater and return to the freezer.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt, garlic powder, and chives.
- Add the grated frozen butter and shredded cheddar cheese to the flour mixture, tossing to coat.
- Create a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a fork until just combined.
- On a lightly floured surface, bring the dough together, forming a rectangle.
- Lightly roll the dough to about 3/4 inch thick, fold it in thirds, then roll out again, repeating 3-4 times.
Cutting and Baking
- Roll the dough to about an inch thick and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
- Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, touching slightly.
- Place the pan in the freezer for 10 minutes to keep the ingredients cold.
- Brush the tops with milk or buttermilk before baking.
- Bake for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter before serving warm.
