For the Cocktail
  • 2 oz vodka (choose a gluten-free brand if needed) Ensure it's gluten-free if required.
  • 2 oz fresh blood orange juice (about 1 medium blood orange) Freshly squeezed for best flavor.
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice (about half a lime) Freshly squeezed.
  • 3-4 oz ginger beer (regular or diet for low calorie) Use diet ginger beer for a low-calorie option.
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup or agave (optional) Omit for low-carb/diabetic-friendly version.
  • 1 cup ice cubes For shaking and serving.
  • 1 slice blood orange or lime wheel for garnish
  • to taste fresh mint (optional) For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Chill your glass or copper mug with ice or in the freezer for a few minutes.
  2. Juice the blood orange and lime. Strain if you prefer no pulp.
  3. In a shaker, add blood orange juice, lime juice, vodka, and simple syrup if using. Add a few ice cubes.
  4. Shake lightly for 10 seconds until well mixed and chilled.
Serving
  1. Fill your chilled mug or glass with fresh ice.
  2. Strain the cocktail into the glass over ice.
  3. Top with ginger beer and stir gently to combine. Taste and add more lime or a splash of simple syrup if needed.
  4. Garnish with a blood orange wheel and a sprig of mint.

Notes

To keep it low calorie, skip the simple syrup and use sparkling water with ginger flavor. Pair the drink with fresh fruit or a small plate of lean protein and veggies for a balanced snack. For a non-alcohol version, mix blood orange and lime juice with diet ginger beer and sparkling water.
