Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water water should be warm to activate the yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • herbs (optional, such as garlic powder, rosemary, or thyme)
For Serving
  • Marinara or herbed olive oil for dipping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 24-26 pieces. Roll each piece into a stick shape.
  7. Place the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Optionally, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with herbs.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Serve warm with marinara or herbed olive oil for dipping.

Notes

To store leftover breadsticks, let them cool completely and place them in an airtight container or zip-top bag. They can be kept at room temperature for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
